Public transport: Krems can be reached by train from Vienna/Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof. The train station is only a few minutes' walk from the old town. Hotels, restaurants, the Kunstmeile Krems and the Danube promenade with the shipping centre are also within easy walking distance.
Local transport: The city centre of Krems and Stein can be explored without having to rely heavily on public transport. Excursions to the Wachau region (Dünstein, Spitz, Melk) are possible from the Krems/Stein shipping centre, and there are also good bus connections in Krems/the surrounding area and towards the Wachau region. As Krems is located directly on the Danube cycle path, there are also many bike and Segway rental stations here.
In addition, the Wachau Railway connects Krems with the Wachau region: it runs along the Danube via Dürnstein, Weißenkirchen and Spitz to Emmersdorf near Melk and offers a particularly charming way to explore the region.
